California, here we are!

We made it!

It can be a long hard trip to get from the East Coast to California (or from the other side of the world (Fiji))!  But it's worth it.  There is magic here.

These are some of my photos of the journey west.  Again, Southwest (they had given us great vouchers because of the delays coming back from Albuquerque last month, so we got very good deals on out tickets this time.)

Always kind of cool to see your home base from above ...
Already dark when I left Atlanta for San Diego, but once we were above the clouds there was a beautiful view of the place between day and night.  We stayed in this place for quite awhile, until it became definitely night.
But John and I both made it to the San Diego airport at roughly the same time.  This looked like something that you don't see every where ...
Saw Joe and Jim out on the deck this morning ...
 … with pelicans overhead ...
… and found my own chair to watch the breaking of day over the Pacific Ocean.
There are some very steep stairs going down to the beach that I haven't tried yet ….
This is the back of the house.  There are really 3 levels, lots of room and lots of perks ...
… like another deck on the roof!
… and its own sauna room (and hot tub) etc.  More to come ...

  1. Are you visiting friends/family? Such a lovely break from the creeping signs of winter. Those shots of the Pacific are gorgeous. I have seen the Pacific from the west coast of Vancouver Island and I flew over it, naturally, to Japan. The open water I saw there was the Inland Sea (Seto no Kai) between Honshu and the island of Shikoku.

    1. My sister and her husband (a doctor/nurse) have been serving as Peace Corps volunteers in Fiji for the past year. They are on "leave" of sorts. THeir oldest son, Michael, is a JAG (Air Force attorney) who is now stationed just outside of San Francisco. He and his wife just had their fourth boy. They rented a large beach house in Encinita CA (just north of San Diego) to accommodate everybody - their other children (Jon and his wife Heather, and Greg) as well as friends of theirs from upstate NY who also wanted to come to see them. They will return to Fiji after Thanksgiving for another year of service with the Peace Corps. Hope this makes sense. It was a lovely spot with great weather while we were there.
